It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas And We Are Putting Together Our Favorite Festive Oufits

What to wear for your Christmas Parties This Year Chicago Fashion SARAROSE

The holidays are fast approaching!

How can it be that 2019 is almost over?! It has flown by and before we know it, it will be time for holiday parties and holiday shopping.

I am a big fan of systematically planning outfits for special occasions ahead of time. I am not a big fan of math but there is definitely a formula and method to creating the perfect look and its a formula I have used to work with my clients in their closets throughout the years.

Top + Bottom + Shoes + Accessories + Layering = Perfect outfit

This may sound silly and super simple, but time and time again I see clients overstressed and confused about how to craft the perfect look and when I break it down by category similar to a checklist, I start to see them thrive creating their dream personal style.

Below I am going to break down each category and explain how to quickly put them together while looking cohesive, timeless while remaining right on trend.

I call it the rule of 5 and it is a checklist that looks like this:

  1. Top

I personally prefer to keep my tops simple and let my bottoms do the talking, but thats just me! So in my personal wardrobe (when I am not wearing dresses) I focus on finding simple bodysuits in a multitude of colors to have as a base for all of my outfits. Like the black bodysuit photographed in this piece. I have extremely sensitive skin and so I have found it extremely effective to stick to soft cotton stretch bodysuits that don’t fuss a lot. And that works for me in more ways than one. I have a bodysuit in every sleeve length and in a wide range of neutrals, this allows me to literally throw on any bottom and feel polished and put together with minimal effort.

  2. Bottom

Satin midi slip skirts have been a favorite this Fall season. They are chic and elegant and come in an abundance of prints and patterns. They are where I like to have fun and add personal touches to my style. For instance, this heart silhouette skirt from Realisation Par has a fun flare to it that lends to the magic I like to sprinkle into my daily life.

  3. Shoes

As soon as fall hits, I basically live in thigh high boots! They add an extra layer of warmth and up the wow factor to every look. Depending on where you live and the weather during the holidays, thigh high boots keep you warm while maintaining your fashion factor.

  4. Accessories

For every day outfits I keep my jewelry and accessories fairly simple, but when it comes to the holidays or special occasions, I amp it up and layer it on! Thick padded headbands are my go to for dressing up any outfit, along with a good statement earring. I try to pull one color from the print or pattern in my outfit and make it pop. I wear a lot of black, its chic, you can’t go wrong, but for the holidays I love to throw on a bright red or an emerald green and when I do, my velvet headbands have become major staples in my holiday party attire. Throw on a vintage beaded clutch and you have an easy holiday look that works for dressy casual to cocktail in 5 minutes or less.

  5. Layering

Layering is fundamental during cold seasons. So make sure to layer a body suit or two along with tights and your boots. Add a cute holiday sweater on top to get ultra festive and go with a theme or pair a chunky knit sweater with a slouchy tuck at the waist for a more refined look.

We often over complicate style and fashion. But it is as simple as breaking it down to the 5 elements that make up the perfect outfit. Pick 1 neutral color + 1 accent color or go for a simple monochromatic look and accessorize from there. If you have a skirt or dress with multiple colors in it, pick one to accent in accessories and keep the rest of your look neutral.

My biggest advice is invest in quality piece that can take you from year to year. There is no shame in being an outfit repeater. If you find something that works for you make it a tradition. I have a funeral dress, 2 wedding dresses (one for summer, one for winter), and my go to cocktail dress (that is actually my homecoming dress from high school, still wearing it all these years later). If it works, it works. Keep it simple and find the beauty in sustainability of wearing what you have.

I can’t tell you how many times I have worn my go to outfits, but I can tell you how much it simplifies my life when it comes to celebrating or remembering loved ones. I can focus on the actual event and not on worrying about what to wear.
