Why We Believe Dressing Up This Year Is An Important Mental And Spiritual Ritual And Therapy

As a designer and a personal stylist, I have always believed in the close connection between what we wear and the effect it can have on us mentally and emotionally.

In a year where we have all on many levels experienced uncertainty, fear, isolation and a social disconnect from our communities, loved ones, and friendship circles, it is so important to keep committing to dressing up and making the act of getting dressed intentional even if all of our plans have been canceled.

I am that person that never owned sweatpants until this year. Nick makes fun of me for never wearing them! I am a satin slip dress or dressy pajamas kind of girl. I like to wear statement jewelry with my loungewear and make a point to feel a bit extra when sitting at home. One of my favorite dressy loungewear designers that just elevates your at home wardrobe is Larkin Hughes.

Even if I am only going grocery shopping or running quick errands to pick up delivery, I like to put on my favorite dresses, shoes and boots and make it a fashion moment if only for my own mental wellness.

I had received a few maxi dresses for my birthday this year and I have made it a mission to wear them regardless of being considered “too dressed up” for a lack of an occasion.

What are your thoughts? Have you every tried color therapy or dressing with intention to get out of a mental funk? What are some of your go to tips to keep your spirits up?
